Parco dell’Etna

Etna Park was the first to be established in Sicily in March 1987. Etna is both the highest active volcano in Europe and a mountain where there are recent lava flows, in which it has not yet settled any form of life, and very ancient flows on which natural plant formations are present.

To protect this unique natural environment and the extraordinary surrounding landscape, marked by the presence of man, the Etna Park has been divided into four zones with decreasing levels of protection.

Since 2013, the “A” zone of integral protection has been recognized as the “core zone” of the Mount Etna UNESCO Site.

Area “B”, a general reserve, has been recognized as a “buffer zone” of the Mount Etna UNESCO Site

Zones “C” and “D” are pre-park zones.
